Oberst Fleissbach – 20th July 1944 – Stauffenberg Staff Fliessbach was a Major in Oberst Stauffenbergs Staff based the Bendlerblock Berlin (OKH Headquarters).During the plot, Fliessbach was recorded as being the first to notice his superiors were lying to him. He immediately organised weapons and ammunition. Returning to the Headquarters to find Stauffenberg about to leave he opened fire and forced the plotters to take cover in a room. Shortly after Fliessbach and Herber entered the room where it was decided that Stauffenberg be shot in the courtyard. Fliessbachs role on the day is recorded in many publications on the July Plot against Hitler. His cap displays the Waffenfarbe corresponding to General Officers. The visor is named to Fliessbach. This visor was also likely present at the scene when Stauffenberg was executed. Fliessbach was promoted directly to Colonel and given bravery awards. He was a witness to the prosecution during the infamous trials where the plotters were sentenced to death. Fliessbach was sent to Italy where he commanded a town St Leonhard. Also famous for the story of the "Monuments Men".After his capture he was interned in the Generals Camp Bellaria. He returned to Germany where he passed away in the 1970s.
