Besamim – a Jewish liturgical vessel used to store fragrant herbs, especially cloves, ginger, nutmeg, allspice with myrtle or rose petals.It is used during the hawdala – the closing prayer of the Sabbath. Besamim were built in various shapes, but the most common were turreted balsamines, with a shape reminiscent of a fortress – the Fortress, which is a biblical symbol of God.
