It was one of the largest prisons incorporated into Germany. The facility is intended for men and women sentenced to imprisonment from 6 months to 2 years. In terms of nationality, the prisoners in Wronki were mainly Poles. Throughout the occupation, over 28,000 prisoners passed through the prison. This number does not include prisoners of war, hostages and other people imprisoned in Wronki during the first weeks of the occupation. The prisoners were held in quarantine for many months before being sent to other prisons or concentration camps, mainly Oświęcim and Mauthausen, to industrial plants using slave labor.
