This flak optic has an Serial Number (APN) of 39919 which is the last known coated specimen by Emil Busch in March of 1944.What’s interesting is that by that time, Busch had already stopped coating the particular batch for several months. What’s exceptionally unique about this optic is that in its original form, it contains both coated and uncoated lenses and prisms. For reasons not fully known, what may explain the left optic not being coated is that during it’s acceptance procedure, the coated optic failed inspection (which is common and often times the optics failed due to being poorly coated), resulting in the set being rejected by the Heereswaffenamtstelle and returned to Busch for repair. Because the coating process had already been halted at that factory, an uncoated optic was put in it’s place. Coated optics are rare, they were only briefly coated in production from late 1943 to February/March 1944This unaltered, unique piece has been documented, photographed and will be featured in the soon to be released book, Eye of the Flak 2.ALSO INCLUDED, the dove tail that mounts to the bottom of the optics so they can be attached to the cradle.
