Holocaust Auction June 2023
Lot 653:
Holocaust – Used JOOD version cloth Star of David for Dutch Jews. This star was the one used to identify the Jews within the Netherlands during III Reich. It had the word JOOD written within a yellow star representing the Jewish symbol of the Star of David, using a lettering that ressembled the hebraic writting. This star was cut from sheet and stitched making a patch that could be stitched and unstitched to different garments. Reinforced on the back with a linen cloth patch to make it more consistent, something very common so that they last. It’s made from the legit fabric with typical weaving and stamped with black ink. This one was somewhat used and it has small damage with a small hole and it seems it was glued to some album and removed from it, therefore there are some remains of glue and paper on the back. JOOD stars were same size and manufacturing as JUDE version stars, but obviously these are rarer since the number of Dutch Jews was sensibly smaller. Finding these stars nowadays is becoming very difficult, and most of them are in private collections and museums all over the world. This is the true iconic item of the Holocaust along with the striped concentration camp uniforms and barbed wire from fences. A piece of history in your hands!
