Third Reich Life & War, World History
Lot 422:
The nicest signed Hitler photograph we have offered! We sold this amazing piece a couple of years ago and the original purchaser has decided to sell it, so here it is one more time. This large portrait photograph was taken by Wieland Wagner, grandson of famous composer Richard Wagner and a good friend of Hitler. He was just one a couple photographers that was allowed to photograph Hitler in a studio setting. Generally Heinrich Hoffmann was only allowed to photograph Hitler in this way but with the Wagner’s being close friends to Hitler, he apparently made an exception. Whoever Hitler signed this photo for kept in carefully stored over the years as it’s still in absolute mint condition. The photo ended up in the collection of Bernhard Doering of Heidelberg, Germany who amassed one of the most extensive and famous collections of Third Reich artifacts after the war. When Doering passed away most of his collection was sold to a couple of dealers in Germany. The owner of the photo has recently put it inside a period Greek key frame, protected by new museum glass. Large photos like this Hitler only signed for close friends and people of great importance. Signed in extremely bold black ink and with the date of 23 February 1935 in Berlin. The photo measures around 7.25 inches x 10.25 inches. The frame size is about 11 inches x 14 inches.
